Transpersonal is that which is beyond the boundaries of the personal. Cinema, from the Greek word Kinema "movement" and kinein "to move," is the art of the moving image in all its forms. Transpersonal Cinema is cinema that seeks to transcend the normally perceived boundaries of self and world. Mark Allan Kaplan, Ph.D. is an internationally acclaimed award-winning filmmaker, and a transformational media arts consultant and researcher. His creative works have been shown on cable television, in theaters, schools, and colleges, and at film expositions around the world. Mark has worked as a producer, director, writer, and editor on industrial, educational, short subject, and feature films and videos. He personally studied with Robert Wise (director of The Sound of Music and editor of Citizen Kane), King Vidor (director of Our Daily Bread and War and Peace), Daniel Petrie (director of A Raisin in the Sun and Resurrection), Lester Novros (filmic expression, animation, special effects, and large-format film pioneer), and Robert Boyle (production designer for Alfred Hitchcock). Mark has a B.A. in Motion Picture Production from the University of Southern California School of Cinema and Television; an M.F.A. in Motion Picture Directing from the American Film Institute; and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Transpersonal Psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology.
